Obituary from Clinton Herald 24 Jan 2004
Margaret Richter, 86, formerly of Mount Carroll, died Tuesday at Country Villa Healthcare, San Diego, Calif.
Funeral services will be at 11 a.m. Jan. 30 in the Frank-Law-Jones Funeral Home, Mount Carroll, with the Rev. Suellen Finer Myers of Mount Olive Lutheran Church, Mukwanago, Wis. officiating. Burial will
be in Oak Hill Cemetery, Mount Carroll. Visitation will be from 6 to 8 p.m. Thursday, with the Eastern Star Service at 7 p.m. in the funeral home.

She was born June 29, 1917, in Savanna, Ill., the daughter of Newman and Nellie (Davis) Jones. She attended high school in Mount Carroll and graduated with the class of 1936. While attending high school, she lived with her sister, Florence Hanna Lantz, and worked at Shimer
College. On New Year's Day in 1937, she married Carlyle Richter. He died in 1976.

She was a 50-year member of the Eastern Star. She was active in Community Club, and other civic activities, particularly when her husband was councilman and mayor.

She was a Girl Scout leader for 10 years and a member of the Lutheran Church.  During the war years, she worked at Savanna Ordnance Depot, later at the Farm Bureau, PCA, and for Krum Forster in Freeport, Ill. She was also a school secretary at Center Hill School, rural Mount Carroll, from 1965 to her retirement in 1976.

Survivors include one daughter, Mrs. Glenda (Michael) Pearlman of San Diego, Calif.; two grandchildren; and two great-grandchildren.

In addition to her husband, she was preceded in death by four sisters and five brothers. In lieu of flowers, the family suggests contributions in Margaret Richter's name to the San Diego Parkinson Corporation.
