1. EDWARD3 HATFIELD (EDWARD2, EDWARD1) was born March 08, 1799 in Union
Township, Licking, Ohio, and died October 17, 1868 in Savanna, Il. He
married (2) RHONDA HATFIELD. He married (1) MARY JACKSON September 21,
1824 in Tuscarawas County, Ohio - per JTC. She was born April 01, 1800 in
Ohio, and died Aft. April 17, 1835 in Henry Co., Indiana.

Notes for EDWARD HATFIELD:
1820's lived in Union Township, Licking Co., Ohio. In 1839 moved family to
De Witt, Iowa and settle in what is now Clinton Ia. About 1845 moved near
Hanover and then later to Washington Township, Carroll Co., Ill.

1830 In Henry Co., Indiana Near Mother and possible brother Thomas

1840 Census Clinton Co., Iowa

1850 Census Savanna with only John and Jane - no wife listed

1860 Census in Washington Township, Carroll Co., Ill - no wife but lives
with two Sons Edward and John plus a female servant. His personal property
worth $275

Henry Co., Indiana. He married CLEMMIE SNEED March 19, 1873. She was born
June 07, 1849 in Grant County, Wis, and died 1880 in Savanna, Il.

Notes for EDWARD HATFIELD:
Came to Jo Daviess 1837 and to Carroll 1859 - farmer owns 240 acres

1870 Census - not married yet, On his farm worth $3,600/2,000. Living with
him is a farm hand Joseph Taylor and Joseph's wife Frances who is a school
teacher.

1880 Census - Widower, lives with his two daughters, and his two nephews and
no house servant to help out

3. LYDIA ANN4 HATFIELD (EDWARD3, EDWARD2, EDWARD1) was born April 18, 1833
in Ohio, and died May 16, 1915 in Savanna, Il. She married JOHN A. ROBISON
February 22, 1859, son of MILOS ROBISON. He was born Abt. 1837.

4. JANE4 HATFIELD (EDWARD3, EDWARD2, EDWARD1) was born April 17, 1835 in
Henry Co., Indiana, and died February 11, 1875. She married (1) FREDERICK
WILLIAM MILLER March 17, 1859, son of FRIEDRICH MULLER and CHRISTIANE BEYER.
He was born Abt. 1836 in Prussia, and died December 02, 1863 in Nashville,
Tn. She married (2) CHARLES COCHRAN December 07, 1874 in Whiteside County,
Ill. He was born 1849.

Notes for JANE HATFIELD:
IN spring of 1864 she moves to entirely unimproved, wild land, farm in Mount
Carroll township - five miles east of Savanna. She made first shack house
from four trees or cornor post. She owned no oxen or horses but had a small
hand wagon that she would use to get supplies in town. She would haul
Charles in the wagon and carry John in her arms. That summer her neighbors
razed her a log house with no glass in the windows. She could handle a gun
as well as any man and protected her chickens and hogs from the wolves at
night. About 1866 she sell this farm and moves to Apple River township and
in 1872 buys the Gleason farm in section 21 Washington Township.

She couldn't write her name on the civil war pension application

Born Friedrich Wilhelm Muller
5'7 Dark hair, blue eyes and light complexion

August 14, 1862 Volunteered 96th Illinois Infantry Company F as a Private -
some time cooks. Washes clothes for extra money. Wounded in left knee at
Chickamauga and dies from erysipelas.

1860 Census renting farm in Savanna township worth $0/$300

1870 Census - Jane with two sons living in Washington Township with her half
brother John

Notes for CHARLES COCHRAN:
On 8/1875 he applied for guardianship of Janes 2 children until each became
16 - $2 each was the federal pension - at this time he was 26! When Jane
died in 2/1875 she was 39.

5. CHARLES EDWARD5 MILLER (JANE4 HATFIELD, EDWARD3, EDWARD2, EDWARD1) was
born January 06, 1860 in Washington Township, Il, and died January 21, 1934
in Savanna, Il. He married GEORGIANNA MATHESON February 22, 1888, daughter
of JOHN MATHESON and MARGARET LAW. She was born August 05, 1868, and died
January 17, 1944.

Notes for CHARLES EDWARD MILLER:
He was one of the organizers of the Carroll County Fair Association and was
a director for years. He lived on the Miller farm for more than 70 years.
He was the Washington township assessor and supervisor. He died on Sunday
evening at his daughter Elsie Winston's home of angina pectoris and had been
ill for four months.

He had completed his studies at Northern Illinois College at Fulton. His
specialty was Hereford cattle and high-grade stock on his 500 acres in
section 21, Washington Township - now part of the Mississippi Palisade State
Park.

On the 1870 Census Charles and his brother lived with their mother and her
half brother John in Washington Township.

On the 1880 Census both brothers lived with their mother's brother Edward
who was a widower and his two daughter.

1900 and 1910 Census in Washington Township

1920 Census lives next door to William D. Graves family and has a female
servant and a male boarder a Charles Lister.

1930 Census his wife and son George living with him in Washington Twnsp.



Notes for GEORGIANNA MATHESON:
As young girl moved with her parents to a farm near Mount Carroll, Ill from
Weston, Ill - Per Terry J Miller

Taught school several years prior to marriage.

From 1920 Census Washington Township, Carroll Co., Il - She states that her
father from Canada and spoke Scotchish

6. JOHN W.5 MILLER (JANE4 HATFIELD, EDWARD3, EDWARD2, EDWARD1) was born
August 02, 1862 in Savanna, Il. He married REBECCA GILLESPIE December 11,
1880, daughter of HUGH GILLESPIE and JANE CARRUTHERS. She was born May 10,
1865.

1870 and 1880 living with mother and brother

He was on the board of supervisors of Washington Twnsp - 1888 moved to farm
at Marcus, Ill. and lived there 9 years. 1896 the two brothers divided
Washington farm and JW built new house and lived there until 1899 when he
sold it and his Marcus farm. He moved into Savanna and engaged in the
hardware business for 18 mths. Sold interest and opened general store in
Mt. Carroll for less than 1 year. Fall 1902 he moved to old High Gillespie
homestead of 470 acres in section 11 Washington Twnsp and kept 150 head
cattle

7. FREDERICK M6 MILLER (CHARLES EDWARD5, JANE4 HATFIELD, EDWARD3, EDWARD2,
EDWARD1) was born September 10, 1890 in Washington Township, Il, and died
January 1963 in Illinois. He married FLORENCE GRAVES Abt. 1920, daughter of
WILLIAM GRAVES and EMMA METZ. She was born August 28, 1895 in Savanna, Il,
and died July 1983 in Lanark.

Notes for FREDERICK M MILLER:
on the 1930 census was in Washington Township, Carroll Co., Il - lives right
next door to Florence Graves

WW1 at Tallaferro Fields, Hicks, Texas
Enlisted as a private # 1106059 on 12/15/1917 at Chicago, Il. He was 27
with blue eyes, dark hair, ruddy complexion and 5'9 and not yet married. He
had an honorable discharge from the flying school detachment air service
aeronautics on 1/3/1919. He had no practise in marksmanship or gunner nor
did he mount a horse. He had no battles, engagements, skirmishes,
expeditions or wounds. His character was excellant. He was at the flying
school from 2/24/1918 to date of discharge.
