Dr. Hussey Day July 15 (1973)
41 Years Of Service To The Community

The Savanna Chamber of Commerce and other service organizations are planning "Dr. Hussey Day" to be held Sunday, July 15. A program will be held on the Savanna high school athletic field at 2 p.m. (In the gym in case of rain) with a reception from 3 to 5 p.m. in the high school cafeteria and a dinner at 6 p.m. at the Black Angus Supper club. The program will be broadcast by W. C. C. I.

Tickets for the dinner may be secured at either Savanna bank, Badges proclaiming "Dr. Hussey Day, July 15" and "I'm A Dr. Hussey Baby" badges for all babies delivered by Dr. Hussey will be on sale at both Savanna banks, also on the street Sat., Jul 7. Proceeds from the sale of badges will help finance this most worthwhile effort.

Dr. L. B. Hussey was born on May 14, 1906 in Amboy, Illinois. He attended the public schools in Amboy. In 1923 he began college at Northwestern University, where he received the highest of honors as a graduate of college and medical school-Phi Beta Kappa and Alpha Omega Alpha. He received his Doctor of Medicine degree from Northwestern University in Evanston.

Upon graduation from medical school, this promising young physician practiced for the summer in Burlington, Wisconsin. Then he went to Polo to fill a 6 months vacancy. A short time later, in 1932, Dr. Hussey went to Savanna. He married the former Miss Bernice Holbert, a Polo music teacher, and the couple established their home in Savanna.

Professionally, Dr. Hussey has been an active member of several medical organizations. Among them are Carroll County Medical Society, Illinois State Medical Society, American Medical Association. American Academy of General Practice, American Association of Railway Surgeon and Phi Chi Medical Fraternity.

Dr. Hussey's civic contributions have been numerous. He has been an active Rotarian for 37 years, and was President in 1941-42. Rotary's record has been almost perfect and he continues to serve the club as song leader with his fine tenor voice.
Dr. and Mrs. Hussey are members of St. Paul's Episcopal Church in which he has held various offices.

Dr. and Mrs. Hussey are parents of three children, Dr. John (Jack) Hussey in now in residence at the University Hospital in Madison, Wisconsin. He is primarily engaged in kidney transplants. His wife, Jill, is a graduate nurse. They have three children. Dr. David Hussey is now Associate Professor in radiotheraphy at the University of Texas M. D. Anderson Hospital in Houston, Texas. He and his wife Miriam were married in September 1972. The Hussey's daughter, Kathleen Hussey Allen, graduated from Stephens College in Columbia, Missouri and worked as an airline stewardess before her marriage to Ronald L. Allen, a former resident of Sabula, Iowa. He is a stockbroker in Spokane, Washington, where they reside with their two children.
