1. JOSEPH1 LISTER was born 1813 in England. He married MARY. She was born 1817 in England.

Notes for JOSEPH LISTER:
Wasn't in Illinois in 1850

1860 Census Washington Twp

1870 - Joseph must have died before this census as wife Mary is still in
Washington township living with four of their young children and next door
to Joseph (Son) and Barker - They all live next door to Andrew Law's family.

1880 Wife Mary is living still in Washington township but now is living in
son Barker's home along with son George - 19 and daughter Elizabeth - 26

Notes for JOHN LISTER:
Civil War 96th Illinois Infantry Co F. - had finger shot off at Lovejoy
Station - Mustered out with the regiment in June 1865. By the time the
History of 96th written he had moved to Plymouth County, Iowa. I can't
locate him on any census except the 1860 Washington Township living with the family.

2. AMELIA2 LISTER (JOSEPH1) was born 1840 in England. She married WILLIAM
F. GRAVES. He was born 1827 in Delware.

Notes for WILLIAM F. GRAVES:
Killed when lightning struck the tree under which he had sought shelter from
a heavy rain storm - His farm was sold to Gus Roberts and later to Julius
Dauphin, Sr. and then owned by Leonard Dauphin

1850 Census There are four William Graves in Delaware. Only one is the
right age of 24 and is at Mill Creek Hundred, New Castle, Delaware. He is
living with a George Klair's family and is their farm laborer. May or may
not be him.

1860 Census Mount Carroll, Carroll, Ill with wife and two children.

1870 I can't locate any family member any where

1880 Mt Carroll, Carroll, Ill - wife is llisted as a widow and she is with
her seven children. Two of them are listed as named Samuel.

1900 Census Mt Carroll, Carroll, Ill - the widow wife is living with her son
Lewis- two houses away from her son William D. Graves

4. MORRIS2 LISTER (JOSEPH1) was born 1844. He married MARY ANN LAW
November 22, 1866 in Carroll County, daughter of WILLIAM LAW and ELEANOR
GILLOGLY. She was born 1849.

5. WILLIAM D.3 GRAVES (AMELIA2 LISTER, JOSEPH1) was born January 17, 1866
in Near Center Hill,Illinois, and died June 05, 1928 in Washington Township,
Il. He married EMMA METZ March 16, 1893 in Her parent's home, daughter of
DANIEL METZ and REBECCA BRANTHAVER. She was born January 06, 1864 in Center
Hill, Il, and died 1957.

Notes for WILLIAM D. GRAVES:
After marriage first settled in Preston, Iowa where he was associated with a
creamery.

1880 Census Mt Carroll, Carroll, Il - he lives four houses away from Emma
Metz

1900 Census Mt Carroll, Carroll, Il - Two houses from his mother

1910 Mount Caroll Twnsp

1911 moved to farm purchased from Howard Fish. the house had been built by
JW Miller. It had three gables and a lot of "gingerbread" work which was
painted pink and yellow - the house was white. THis farm had a running
spring and they built a spring house. I remember as a small child, about
three, being scared seeing a large black snake on the wall of the spring
house. In 1957 became part of the state park

1920 Census Washington Township, Carroll Co., Il his father from Dellaware
and mother England - this farms becomes part of the Mississippi Palisade
State Park

1930 Census - Widow and daughter Vera

Three of the four children attended the Walnut Grove School which was at one
time the Mississippi Palisades Museum- in 2004 closed-

She operated a dress making shop in Savanna and was a very fine seamstress

Notes for HELEN LUCILLE GRAVES:
Taught in one room school - Lost Mound School 1917-1918
and Matheson School 1920-1921 per "Hanover" by Terry J. Miller

Graduated Savanna Township High School and then Master's Degree in education
from CHicago University. After many years of teaching she worked for the
American National Bank on North LaSalle Street, Chicago, Il

Died of Cancer

iii. VERA GRAVES, b. June 09, 1903; m. WILLIAM H. SOMERVILLE, August 23,
1958, Little Brown Church in the Vale, Nashua, Iowa; b. May 31, 1897.

Notes for VERA GRAVES:
1930 Census in Washington Township with only her mother in the house-
states she works as a public school teacher

Graduated Northern Illinois University at DeKalb and attended Special
Courses at Platteville University and the University ofo Colorado. She
taught 47 years in Carroll and Jo Daviess before her marriage.

iv. VERNON DELBERT GRAVES, b. June 09, 1903; d. May 24, 1925.

Notes for VERNON DELBERT GRAVES:
Graduated Savanna High School - Graduated Gems Business College, Quincy, Ill
- Employed Carson, Pirie, Scott of Chicago. While at work he was stricked
by severe attack of appendicitis. Died of complications of a ruptured
appendix

6. FLORENCE4 GRAVES (WILLIAM D.3, AMELIA2 LISTER, JOSEPH1) was born August
28, 1895 in Savanna, Il, and died July 1983 in Lanark. She married
FREDERICK M MILLER Abt. 1920, son of CHARLES MILLER and GEORGIANNA MATHESON.
He was born September 10, 1890 in Washington Township, Il, and died
January 1963 in Illinois.

Notes for FREDERICK M MILLER:
on the 1930 census was in Washington Township, Carroll Co., Il - lives right
next door to Florence Graves

WW1 at Tallaferro Fields, Hicks, Texas
Enlisted as a private # 1106059 on 12/15/1917 at Chicago, Il. He was 27
with blue eyes, dark hair, ruddy complexion and 5'9 and not yet married. He
had an honorable discharge from the flying school detachment air service
aeronautics on 1/3/1919. He had no practise in marksmanship or gunner nor
did he mount a horse. He had no battles, engagements, skirmishes,
expeditions or wounds. His character was excellant. He was at the flying
school from 2/24/1918 to date of discharge.
